Mendocino College Art Gallery Announces New Exhibit

The Mendocino College Art Gallery is proud to announce its new exhibit, “Travelin’ Dave presents The BigFoot Family Band,” opening on Thursday, November 3 with a reception from 4-6pm.  The exhibit is a mixed media art installation featuring the work of Lush Newton which will transform the gallery with the adventures of a traveling dog, musical bears, and other unexpected delights.

Mendocino College Presents Anton Chekhov’s The Cherry Orchard

The Mendocino College Theatre Arts Department will present Anton Chekhov’s humorously poignant play, The Cherry Orchard beginning next week.  Performances will run October 21-30 in Mendocino College’s Center Theatre on the Ukiah Campus. The play, under the direction of adjunct theatre instructor Jason Davis, features a cast of 22 extraordinary local performers, including 14 full-time college theatre conservatory students.  According to Davis, “the play is a comedy about the human condition, economic disparity, and social change.” 

Mendocino College Awarded 2.2 Million Dollar Hispanic Serving Institution Grant

Mendocino College is pleased to announce it was recently awarded a five-year, 2.2 million dollar Developing Hispanic Institutions grant from the U.S. Department of Education through a highly competitive process. The goal of this grant is to better serve Latino and high-need students at Mendocino College’s four educational sites in Mendocino and Lake Counties.

Two Mendocino College Football Athletes Receive Accolades

The Mendocino Eagles are off to their best start in six years with Saturday’s 32-18 win over College of the Redwoods, the Eagles have improved their record to 3-1.  
 
On September 14th, Mendocino College’s own Joceice Cannon was awarded Offensive Player of the week honors in the American Division of the Northern California Football Conference.  Following an explosive 204 receiving yards on five catches, three of them for touchdowns, in the previous weekend’s 52-39 win against Reedley College.
 

Mendocino College Petition for Transfer of Territory from College of the Redwoods was Granted by Board of Governors

The California Community Colleges Board of Governors approved the proposed transfer of territory from Redwoods Community College District to the Mendocino-Lake Community College District (MLCCD) at their meeting on Monday, July 18th.  As a result of this action, the coastal communities of Fort Bragg and the town of Mendocino along with the surrounding areas will be incorporated into the Mendocino-Lake Community College District on July 1, 2017.
 

Mendocino College Men's Soccer Athletes Sign Letters of Intent for Four-Year Universities

The Mendocino College Men’s Soccer team is off to a strong start, after just two years of offering the program the team can say they’ve sustained their winning record.  Thirteen sophomores played their final season for the Mendocino Eagles in the Fall of 2015, after being part of the inaugural Men’s Team, and now four of them can say they are moving on and continuing to pursue their dream.

Mendocino College Faculty Member, Dan Jenkins, Receives H. Sanford Gum Service Award

Dan Jenkins, a tenured professor at Mendocino College, recently accepted the H. Sanford Gum Service Award for his tremendous efforts in the field of Cooperative Work Experience Education (CWEE).  Completing his twenty-first year of instructing at Mendocino College, this prestigious award came as no surprise to the College Administration or Jenkin’s colleagues.
