The community is invited to attend the upcoming Mendocino College Art Gallery exhibit A Maker and Collector by artist Ren Riley. A show of Riley’s fiber artworks will be shown alongside a selection of her collection of historic American quilts. The exhibit will kick off with a Gala on Friday, November 22 beginning at 5 pm, prior to the opening show of Arise, a dance performance by the Mendocino College Repertory Dance Company. Refreshments will be served.
“For over 35 years I restored antique quilts among other fiber arts,” states Riley. “During this time, I was assembling my own collection of textiles. For years I was constantly on the road doing shows and in search of great textiles. I was able to assemble a vast collection of vintage fabrics. From this collection, I drew fragments to create my own versions of quilt like assemblages. I personally see the constructs as small paintings using fabric as a medium.”
A Maker and Collector will be on display from November 22 through February 2, 2020. Regular gallery hours are Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 12:30-3:30 PM, by special appointment, and during theatre performances.
