Mendocino College is excited to present a dynamic exhibit,” Transculture”, by San Francisco artist Cathy Lu and Sacramento based artist, Sandi Escobar. Both Lu and Escobar explore themes of bi-cultural identity drawing on their experiences growing up in first generation Chinese and Mexican American families. Work shown includes wall size watercolors referencing traditional Chinese scroll paintings with contemporary themes, ceramic and bronze sculpture and a 16-foot cut paper piece in the Mexican folk art tradition of “Papel Picado”. Sandi Escobar, MFA is an Assistant Professor of Sculpture at Sierra College in Rocklin, California and Cathy Lu teaches ceramics at the Sacred Heart Prep school of Atherton, California. Both Lu and Escobar have exhibited their work nationally.
Lisa Rosenstreich, Assistant Professor of Art at Mendocino College invites the public to attend the opening reception on Thursday, September 17, from 4-6pm at the Mendocino College Art Gallery, 1000 Hensley Creek Road, Ukiah, California. The show will run until October 25th. Regular gallery hours are Tuesday through Thursday from 12:30-3:30pm.
