The Krenov School, the Fine Woodworking Program at Mendocino College, is pleased to announce its Annual Midwinter Exhibition, running February 1 through 9, 2020 at The Cypress Street Barn, an exciting new collaborative woodworking space and gallery in Fort Bragg, CA. At the reception on February 7—which runs from 5 to 8pm—visitors will be able to interact with the pieces and meet the 23 talented and determined artists behind them. The Cypress Street Barn is located at 369 Cypress Street in Fort Bragg CA.

At the show, a raffle will be held to generate funds for the school – this year’s prize is a Krenovian facet-fronted display cabinet in bay laurel, made by David Welter. Welter was the Shop Manager at The Krenov School for 30 years until 2016. Since then he has been busily and happily making pieces in his own home shop. Raffle tickets are $10 each and will be available at the exhibition. The drawing will take place at the end of the run of the exhibition.

Founded thirty-nine years ago by master cabinet maker James Krenov, The Krenov School is known far and wide for the refined works of its meticulous and ambitious graduates. An array of students, distinguished by their diversity and united by their dedication to the craft, come to The Krenov School to hone their skills and dive deep into the nuances of fine woodworking. Students learn how to build fine furniture with the level of detail and sensitivity that is synonymous with James Krenov’s work, backed by the guidance of expert furniture makers Laura Mays, Greg Smith, Jim Budlong, Ejler Hjorth-Westh, and Todd Sorenson— graduates of the program themselves. The work that emerges from intense 50 hour weeks over the semester is exquisite and impressive in its detail.
