With a Master's Degree in Counseling, I have spent my professional career helping students successfully transition from secondary to post-secondary education, training, and employment programs to obtain their academic and vocational goals. This includes connecting students to the support services, agencies, and resources needed for success.
During my 45+ years of professional experiences as a Counselor at Mendocino High School, Instructor at College of the Redwoods, Counselor at Portland Community College, and current Counselor at Mendocino College, I have facilitated warm, caring, and supportive counseling environments that foster respectful and productive learning relations with all students and enables students, particularly those with multiple learning styles and educational needs, to maximize their success and personal growth in college programs.
Guided by the principles of an old Chinese proverb, strongly believe, “If we give a student a fish, he or she will eat for a day. However, if we teach students how to fish, they will feed themselves; not go hungry; and feed others one day.” I also believe that community college education programs play a vital role in providing students with the basic, essential, supportive, and academic/vocational skills required to become productive, self-sufficient, and contributing members of our communities, society and interdependent global economy.
