INTERIM LEARNING CENTER COORDINATOR
March, 2017 – June, 2018

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Mendocino College seeks an interim, full-time educational administrator to lead its Learning Center.   The Learning Center provides tutoring, supplemental instruction, and placement testing to Mendocino College students.  It provides a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment to support the development of foundational English, Math, and study skills. 

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

Under supervision of the Dean of Instruction with some direction from the MESA/STEM Success Director, the Interim Learning Center Coordinator directs and administers instructional support programs and services in the Learning Center, including assessment/placement testing.

Plans, organizes and directs activities for the Learning Center including provision of services to Mendocino College Centers –Lake Center (Lakeport), North County Center (Willits), and the Mendocino Coast Center (Fort Bragg), including oversight of Learning Center Assistant.

In collaboration with the Dean of Instruction, leads the district in the implementation of the California Assessment Initiative (CAI)

Organizes and directs all activities related to assessment/placement testing; stays current on state initiatives and regulations related to assessment/placement testing; works with faculty and Institutional Researcher to maintain assessment tools and cut scores, and to conduct validation studies.

Participates with Student Services to provide services associated with SSSP, including outreach to high schools to assist with the matriculation process.

In collaboration with the MESA/STEM Success Director selects, trains, supervises, and schedules tutors in the Learning Center.

In collaboration with MESA/STEM Success Director, writes Program Review and recommends goals and objective for the Learning Center.

Manages the Learning Center budget; allocates and tracks funds.

Ensures compliance with Title V, accreditation requirements, and other regulations.

Under direction of MESA/STEM Success Director, oversees Learning Center facility, including equipment upkeep and needs.

Collaborate with Faculty Foundation Skills Coordinator to implement Foundation Skills activities, reporting, and budget.

Instructs courses in Tutor Training and Supervised Tutoring.

QUALIFICATIONS

This is an educational administrator position; must meet state mandated minimum qualifications

  • Must meet State mandated minimum qualifications for “Learning Assistance or Learning Skills Coordinators or Instructors, and Tutoring Coordinators.”
    • Any master’s degree level discipline in which learning assistance or tutoring is provided at the college where the coordinator is employed.
                                                          OR
      A master’s degree in education, education psychology, or instructional psychology, or other Master’s degree with emphasis in adult learning theory.
  • Possess an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, disability, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students and a willingness to create safe and inclusive learning environments for all students.
  • Experience for one year or more in delivering to students’ academic services aimed at improving academic, study, test taking, and other skills
  • Experience in directing activities requiring management and leadership skills.
  • Experience with public and/or private postsecondary institutions.
  • Familiarity with organizational, operational, and structural functions of post-secondary institutions.
  • Ability to work independently, assumes responsibility, and takes initiative in carrying out assignments; strong writing and communication skills.

KNOWLEDGE OF:

Community College operations; academic services aimed at improving academic study, test-taking, and other skills.

Serve as a liaison to instructors, administrators, and community support providers
Provide classroom instruction in accordance with established course outlines and schedule of classes
Maintain necessary attendance and progress reports.

SALARY/BENEFITS:  

This is an Interim position for the remainder of the 16-17 academic year and the entire 17-18 academic year.  This educational administrator will be employed by a contract for the term of the assignment.  The salary range for this position is currently $68,209 - $78,960 per year.  There is a $2,678 stipend for an earned doctorate.  Twelve days of sick leave and twenty-one days of vacation leave are earned annually for this position.  There are twenty paid holidays.  Family medical, dental, and vision benefits and employee life insurance are provided.
