The Mendocino College Repertory Dance Company presents: Arise!

November 22, 2019 - 7:30pm

In conjunction with The Phoenix Project, Mendocino College Repertory Dance Company presents Arise! November 21-24, 2019 in Mendocino College’s Center Theatre at the Ukiah Campus. The performance will include five new dance works that respond to ideas of community rebuilding and recovery, loss, fear, and stress brought about by the disaster of wildfires. Four professional choreographers—contemporary dance artist Eryn Schon-Brunner, local Middle Eastern dance artist Julie Castillo, Texas dance artists Alex Miller and Lucy Wilson cofounders of BLiPSWiTCH, and Ballet Folklorico dance artist Tony Valencia of DanzArts, San Diego—draw on their art form to explore the concerns that arise from the ashes after the fires, creating their own personal phoenix. MCRDC is joined by special guests, Mendocino College Choir, under the direction of Janice Hawthorne Timm, featuring works by local composers Joseph Nemeth and Jesse Timm.

Arise! will run for one weekend only. Performances are Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, November 21, 22, and 23 at 7:30PM, and Sunday, November 24, at 2PM. An opening Gala will be held Friday at 6:30PM with the Mendocino College Art Gallery before the performance at 7:30pm. Tickets: $15 general, $10 Students and Seniors. Tickets are available at the Mendocino Book Company, Mendocino College Bookstore, and online at www.artsmendocino.org. Tickets may also be purchased at the door, cash or check only.
