Sociology is a social science that involves the systematic study of the social lives of people, groups, and societies as well as the study of our behavior as social beings, covering everything from the analysis of short contacts between anonymous individuals on the street to the study of global social processes.

This course will provide a set of concepts and theories to describe and explain the social behavior of human beings and organization of society. Students examine subjects such as culture, deviance, sexuality, media, social stratification, and the institutions of the family, religion, education, politics, and the economy.

This course will provide an identification and analysis of contemporary social problems including the role of power, resources and ideology in the definition of social problems, their causes and consequences, evaluations of proposed solutions, and methods of intervention. Topics will vary.

This course will examine a broad range of contemporary LGBT issues in various domestic and global contexts including bio-medical, sociological and political. Additionally, students have the opportunity to explore intersecting identities while developing research and critical thinking skills vital for further progress in the program.
