COLLEGE TO OFFER BLUEPRINT READING CLASS IN WILLITS THIS FALL
Willits – As part of its new Sustainable Technology program, Mendocino College will offer a core requirement class for North County residents in Willits on Friday evenings this fall. Beginning on August 24, SST 164, Understanding Blueprints, Diagrams and Schematics, will be offered each Friday evening through December 14 from 5:30 to 8:20 pm at the college’s county museum classroom on East Commercial Street.
Presented by Sustainable Technology Program Instructor Cora Saxton, the class explains the analysis and interpretation of blueprints, diagrams and schematics generally used in construction, electrical, plumbing, HVAC systems, fabrication and related fields. Students will be introduced to the importance and uses of blueprints and other construction documents, proper handling of documents on the job, common symbols, methods of interpretation and checking for accuracy and completeness. The course also includes reviews and applications of basic math concepts needed to complete on-the-job tasks.
“The blueprints class is a good place to begin the new Sustainable Technology program and is being offered in Willits for the first time so North County students interested in construction careers can begin the program or simply take the one class to improve their construction job skills,” says college Dean of Instruction Mark Rawitsch.
The 3-unit class will be offered at the current state community college rate of $46 per unit, plus other applicable college fees and the cost of the textbook.
