SOPHIA SIEBER-DAVIS WINS MENDOCINO COLLEGE
SUSTAINABILITY FAIR T-SHIRT DESIGN CONTEST
Ukiah – Lakeport resident and Mendocino College student Sophia Sieber-Davis was awarded first place in the t-shirt design competition for the college Sustainability Fair held last Friday, May 4, at the college campus in Ukiah.
Sieber-Davis has been taking classes with the college since 2005 and is currently enrolled at the college center in Lakeport. She was awarded $100 from fair supporters and received the award in a special ceremony with Lake Center faculty and staff at the Lake Center on May 2. "The fair's coordinating committee evaluated several designs for this year's t-shirt and we were excited to see this wonderful design from Sophia," said fair coordinator and college Biology Instructor Rachel Donham. "Sophia's design helps us all to think about what each one of us can do to 'go sustainable' and do our part to help promote sustainability," Donham adds.
Sophia's art instructor from the college, Steve Lipke, participated in the Lake Center award ceremony along with Center Assistant Eileen Lucas and Dean Mark Rawitsch. "Students and staff at the Lake Center are proud of Sophia's contributions to this year's Sustainability Fair, and we're happy a Lake Center student has been recognized for her outstanding design work," Rawitsch said.
The college Sustainability Fair will be an annual event, featuring presentations and information about the need to reduce carbon footprint impacts, global warming issues and other earth-friendly topics of interest. Shirts are still available for sale by calling Rachel Donham at 468-3169. Crew neck styles are available in sizes S-XL and the V-neck style M-XL. Proceeds from the sale of this year's t-shirts will help to support future Sustainability Fairs.
