MENDOCINO COLLEGE 24th LATINO STUDENT RETREAT
The 24th Annual Latino Student Retreat will be held at Mendocino College on Friday, May 4, 2012 from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., beginning at the Center for Visual and Performing Arts. Approximately 200 high school students from Lake and Mendocino County high schools will be in attendance.
The purpose of the Latino Student Retreat is to promote social and cultural awareness to the high school students from Mendocino and Lake Counties, and it includes motivational speeches, entertainment and lunch. The event has increased in popularity since its inception 24 years ago, and it continues to draw well-known and excellent Latino role models as presenters from political, legal, business, and artistic fields. This year’s theme is “Sueños y Corazones—Following Our Hearts and Dreams.”
This year’s keynote speaker is Dr. Roberto Dansie, who is celebrating 40 years of service in the fields of culture, education and healing around the world. Dr. Dansie received his Doctorate in Clinical Psychology in 1984, won the World Martial Arts Championship in 1981 in Korea and has published four books: among them, "Cultural Wisdom", "Eternal Wellsprings," and "Semillas de Esperanza." In 2005, he received the title of "Humanitarian of the Year," by the University of Medicine of Missouri for his work in eliminating the trauma of war in children. His articles are regularly read in 19 languages around the world.
