Mendocino College ceramics students donate a Saturday and their art work to benefit Plowshares
Ukiah, CA- Plowshares’ fourth annual “Empty Bowls” fundraising dinner will be held Saturday March 28 at 6:30 p.m. The event will be held at 1346 South State Street and all proceeds will benefit Plowshares’ Community Dining Room meals for the hungry and homeless.
The concept of Empty Bowls, a fund raising idea that has raised millions of dollars for local food distribution centers throughout the country, is artists and artisans creating and donating pottery bowls for the “Empty Bowls” for a fundraising supper. The event’s ticket includes a handmade bowl of your choice, food and entertainment.
“I support this event because of the powerful message it delivers to us all. At the end of the evening participants leave with their “Empty Bowl” and with it the reminder that too many unfortunate people have nothing but an empty bowl and hunger to look forward to at the end of their day.” Doug Browe Mendocino College ceramics instructor said of the event.
Tickets for the event are $40 and can be purchased at The Mendocino Book Company and Plowshares. Each guest chooses a bowl and fills it with their choice of several gourmet soups. There will also be gourmet bread, appetizers and desserts prepared by volunteer Plowshares cooks, served with donated local wine. Live music will be provided by the Blue Sky Band and the SPACE singing group “Breath”.
Plowshares, located in Ukiah, has been providing free meals and other services to the hungry and homeless since 1983.
