College Ceramics Workshop February 15

Ukiah, CA – The Mendocino College Ceramics Club is hosting a one-day workshop presented by nationally known artist, Susannah Israel, on Friday, February 15, 9:00 am - 3:00 pm, Voc Ed Building in Room 3010, Mendocino College Ukiah campus, 1000 Hensley Creek Rd.

Susannah will lecture, show slides and demonstrate her methods for building large, figurative ceramic sculpture. She will also demonstrate her use of glaze and slips for treatment of surfaces.

New York City-born artist Susannah Israel has a gritty yet passionate view of humanity, drawn from city life. Humor and struggle are part of the message. Israel's expressive work is widely exhibited, appearing in catalogs and collections around the world.

Career distinctions include receiving the prestigious Fletcher Challenge Premier Award, a Virginia Groot Foundation Award, an MFA in Ceramics at SF State University, residency at the Archie Bray, the Doelger Art Center ,and published writing on contemporary artists. Israel has also worked in factory sites in California and Kansas, sculpting massive industrial clay pipe. At home in Oakland, she works in her studio at Vulcan 5 and teaches college courses in art.
