The scope and range of artistic expression and mastery displayed by such internationally and nationally know artists as Michael McMillen, Steve Galloway, Jason Godeke, and Inez Storer, to name a few, coupled with the incredible availability of local and regional talent, including College staff members Bob Comings, Mac Magruder, Gary Medina and Holly Bachmann, brings a well rounded visual experience to MC students, staff, faculty and extended community. While the exhibits are designed to promote and value diversity in art forms, ethnicity of exhibitors, and provide educational opportunities for students and community, the gallery also serves as a highly visible public relations vehicle for the College. It is noted that when high ranking government officials visit the campus they are generally always shown the Gallery as one of the primary stopping points on their tour. Additionally, visiting students from area secondary schools are given tours of not only the Gallery but the entire visual and performing arts complex. The Gallery is always open during evening and matinee performances in the Center Theatre. Gallery exhibits are frequently used as a point of departure for class assignments from several academic departments including English, French and Humanities. Recent gallery highlights include receiving a donation of artworks valued at $51,607 from artist Loren Madsen. Also satisfying has been the accomplishment of a long held goal to do a collaborative exhibition with the Grace Hudson Museum (Northwest Coast Indian Art Traditions/ Collected Heritage & Contemporary Visions). This event has been guided and supported largely by the untiring efforts of Leslie Saxon West of the College Dance Department!
