The Mendocino College Recording Artist-in-Residence Program, begun in 1999-2000, features well-known local and regional recording artists who spend a one-week residency at the College.

During this residency, the Recording Artist-in-Residence visits various music classes, works with students in the College's digital recording studio and, on occasion, conducts public workshops. The week culminates with a live concert performance at the College's 400 seat Center for Visual and Performing Arts Theatre. This concert is recorded by the College's recording arts students and copies of the live recordings are given to the artists for subsequent release.

A live, compilation CD, featuring performances from each of the first five Recording Artists-in-Residence, is available. Proceeds from this recording will benefit the College's recording studio.
