Isabel works as the Data Analyst in the Institutional Research (IR) department. She manages and analyzes data related to student enrollment, demographics, academic performance, state mandates, and grant reporting requirements. She maintains databases, creates reports, and ensures resources are available and current for students, faculty, staff and the community. 

As a Data Analyst, Isabel is involved in a variety of tasks that ensure the effective management and analysis of data. Here's a short breakdown of what she does:

  • Acquires data from primary or secondary sources and creates and maintains databases and data systems.
  • Maintains up-to-date Enrollment, Fill Rates, and Demographic reports.
  • Keeps all data resources on the IR webpage current, including Capture Rates, Degrees and Certificates, Employee Demographics, Student Demographics, Retention Rates, Term Success Rates, and Full Time Equivalent Students (FTES) by term.
  • Completes all data requests from IR Ticket System. Analyzes data, creates reports, graphs, and tables for requestors.
  • Participates as a member of the Enrollment Management Committee.
  • Creates Student Learning Outcomes (SLO) Assessments for faculty each semester.
  • Extracts, analyzes, and visualizes SLO data using Tableau for faculty.
  • Extracts, prepares, and updates student data for each discipline, creating visualizations in Tableau to assist faculty in completing program review requests.
  • Processes and prepares program review requests upon submission, preparing them for distribution to each committee, and then compiles the scores for review once they are evaluated.

Isabel interacts with a diverse group of stakeholders, including faculty, staff, management, IT, and external vendors such as local high schools:

  • Faculty: Often request data on student success in specific courses or trends in student behavior. Isabel assists them in completing Program Review and SLOs.
  • Staff: Isabel collaborates with staff by providing data that will support student retention and success.
  • Management: Isabel provides student and program data to help them make informed decisions about programs and class scheduling.
  • IT: Isabel collaborates with IT to ensure our data programs are up-to-date and functioning correctly.
  • External vendors (High Schools): Isabel handles all data requests from high schools concerning College and Career Access Pathways (CCAP) courses and K12 student success.

Isabel's work eliminates barriers or provides positive impacts to students in the following ways:

  • Provides Data for Decision-Making: Isabel supplies accurate and timely data to administrators, faculty and staff, enabling them to make informed decisions that positively affect students. By analyzing and interpreting data trends, she helps identify areas where resources are needed the most, and where it will impact student success the most.
  • Helps administrators and faculty understand student performance and develop strategies to improve academic outcomes by providing term success reports.
  • Keeps all resources on the IR webpage current, ensuring that faculty, staff, and students have access to the latest data.
  • By participating in the Enrollment Management committee, Isabel contributes to discussions and decisions that shape enrollment strategies and policies that directly impact student success.
  • By creating SLO Assessments for faculty, Isabel helps them measure and improve student learning and achievement.
